Rare Louisiana Lily Found Near Jean Lafitte, Louisiana, 2014

Fun Fact: What is now the City of New Orleans once consisted of fields of wild blue irises, the Giant Blue Iris (Iris giganticaerulea), native to the Bald Cypress swamps of Louisiana.

20 to 30 miles north of New Orleans, a few vestiges of this species remain.

Known for its very large light blue to lavender flower, rare white ones have been found near the Town of Jean Lafitte, Louisiana.
